PLO5: five hole cards, five-card final hand
An extra hole card gives another choice. It does not let you use three private cards at showdown.
What does PLO5 mean?
Five-card Pot-Limit Omaha. Use exactly two of your hole cards and three from the board for the final five-card hand. Read high-only or high-low separately from the card count.
A legal flush example
Your invented hand: A♠ K♠ Q♦ J♣ 2♥. Board: Q♠ 9♠ 4♠ 8♦ 2♣. The two hole spades plus three board spades make a legal ace-high flush. The other three hole cards are not used. This does not establish a win against an unseen opponent.
Is Big O always the same thing?
Big O is the five-card Omaha high-low variation in the WSOP’s 2012 rules, not a synonym for high-only PLO5. Each high or low hand uses exactly two hole cards and three board cards. Its low needs five distinct ranks eight or lower, with ace low; if no low qualifies, high wins the whole pot. Confirm which rules the actual table uses.
- Historical primary definition: WSOP 2012 live-action rules, page 11, Omaha High-Low and The Big O.
The pot button looks too large
The pot-limit calculation includes the call before calculating the raise. The linked PLO6 explanation gives an example; that arithmetic does not depend on having six rather than five hole cards.
